Aussehen

Die Falter erreichen eine Flügelspannweite von 34-36 mm.
Die Zeichnung und Färbung sind sehr variabel. Kopf und Körper sind dunkelbraun. Die Vorderflügel sind braun bis fast schwarzbraun mit einem großen, halbkreisförmigen weißen bis rosafarbenen Fleck am Vorderrand zwischen der inneren und äußeren Querlinie. Er ist der äußeren Querlinie angenähert.
Die Querlinien sind ziemlich schmal, schwarz und leicht gezackt. Sie sind schwer zu erkennen. Die äußere Querlinie ist bei vielen Exemplaren weiß oder rosa gerandet. Die Ringelmakel ist annähernd rund und schwarz umrandet. Der Saum ist wie die Grundfarbe gefärbt, die Fransen sind jedoch bei den meisten Exemplaren etwas heller.

Lebensraum

Die Art bevorzugt warme und trockene Garten- und Ackerunkrautfluren im Siedlungsbereich, auf denen reichlich die Echte Zaunwinde (Calystegia sepium) und die Ackerwinde (Convolvulus arvensis) vorkommt.
Es herrscht die Meinung vor, dass höhere Lagen - auch insbesondere in den Alpen - gemieden werden. Mein Fund vom 2.7.2026 lässt auf anderes schließen (womöglich eine Entwicklung infolge des Klimawandels).

Vorkommen

Von Nordspanien über Süd- und Ostfrankreich bis Belgien, Süddeutschland, Nordostdeutschland, Polen, etwa auf Höhe von Moskau quer durch Russland bis zum Ural-Gebirge.
Sie fehlt in Nordwestdeutschland, Dänemark und Skandinavien.
In einem kleinen, isolierten Zellen in Zentralitalien, aber auch auf der gesamten Balkanhalbinsel bis nach Griechenland.

Flugzeit

Ende Mai - August

meistens in 2 sich überlappenden Generationen.
